New Zealand Natives
As with all plants it is important to understand their natural habitat. Native trees and shrubs should be given growing conditions as near as possible to those in which they naturally inhabit, e.g. sun or shade, dry or moist, rocky or swamp, alpine or coastal. The best thing about our natives is that when planted appropriately they are hardy and will virtually look after themselves. Generally speaking our New Zealand Natives do not require fertiliser. Blood and bone (especially among the roots at planting time) is all the need. They will also respond to mulching. Growing natives in WellingtonHere in Wellington we have our own unique climate and within that micro climates. New Zealand natives are especially versatile for landscaping here in Wellington where the environment can be quite harsh, e.g. wind salt laden air. An added bonus is they require less water particularly if mulched. ![]() email: mail@treesr.co.nz |
